1. 1A Assignment
Duration: moments
  1. Within your WEB 2 folder create a NEW folder called "OTHER". Save all future OTHER assignments in this folder. Remember, no spaces or extra periods in filenames.
2. Create an Icon
Duration: 1 Period

Create an icon and load it to a page on the web server.

  1. Google 'Online Icon Makers' and find info on how to create your own ico file.
  2. Open Fireworks. Create your icon as a 32 x 32 jpg file.
  3. You may create your own icon at 'online icon maker' , 'favicon' (Favicon even animates the icon) , 'Dynamic Drive Icon Converter' , or 'genfavicon'.
  4. Open the Dynamic Drive Icon Converter
  5. Browse, Create, and Save the icon as an '*.ico' file in your My Documents folder.
  6. Add the icon HTML code.
  7. Transfer both the icon and update web page.
  8. Check to see if it worked. NOTE: Icons will only work after you have uploaded them to the web server.

Link a PDF file.

  1. In Word, address the advantages and disadvantages of using pdf's in web sites.
  2. Review how to write an outline at Outline another students essay. Hand in the outline with your name.
  3. Link the document (sans outline) as a pdf to your portfolio. More info on free pdf's .

4. Web Server Analysis
Duration: 1 Period

Analyze Web server Option.

  1. Locate an appropriate domain name and record the name and price. (Purchase it if you like.)
  2. Compare hosting plans. Which one would you choose? Why?
  3. Linux or windows? What is the difference between the two? Why did you choose the one you did?
  4. What are some of the other options you might want to consider? How much does it cost? (i.e shopping carts or marketing tools.)
  5. What kind of security do you need? Is there a cost?
  6. How much does your total plan cost?

Note: Costs should be listed per year.
