1. NDDB Intro, Chapter 1 - epiphany
Duration: 1 Period

Within your CompApps folder create a NEW folder called "NDDB". Save all future design files in this folder.
(i.e. My Documents\CompApps\NDDB)

Read the Intro and Chapter 1 of the NDDB and answer the following questions.

Read Chapter 2 of the NDDB and complete the following assignments:

  1. Create the business card from page 17 with your own info. Use Avery Template 5371 or 8371. Copy info across all 10 spaces. Save as ProximityBusinessCard.doc.

    Note: You can download the 5371 or 8371 Avery Template from the Blank Template Library at the Avery Website. In the Avery menu select Software/Template, then Blank Template Library. Search for 5371 or 8371.

  2. When asked do not use your real name and email. "First", "Last", and name@email.com work just fine. Do not use any of the extra design elements provided by Avery. Additional Avery documentation.

  3. Create the 2 nd newsletter masthead on page 18. Save as ProximityMasthead.doc.

  4. Create the mini poster on page 25. Save as ProximityPardner.doc.

Staple all three documents together, write Proximity on the top document, and hand into the instructor.

3. NDDB Chapter 3 - Alignment

Read Chapter 3 of the NDDB and complete the following assignments:

  1. Update the business card from chapter 2 with the new information from Chapter 3 using the sample at the bottom of page 33. Save as AlignmentBusinessCard.doc.

  2. Create the Mom and Pop stationery matching the the example in the lower right of page 35. Use any appropriate clip art. Save as AlignmentStationery.doc.

  3. Recreate the attached newsletter using the principles of Proximity and Alignment. Do not use Word Art for the title. Use the examples on pages 43 and 45. Save as AlignmentNewsletter.doc.

Staple all three documents together, write Alignment on the top document, and hand into the instructor.

Read Chapter 4 of the NDDB and complete the following assignments:

  1. Create a new personal stationery packet that includes stationery, a business card, and an envelope and uses the same theme for all three documents. Use the examples on page 54. It should be personal and not with the Red Hen info. Save as RepetitionStationery.doc, RepetitionCards.doc, and RepetitionEnvelopes.doc.

    Note 1: Print the attached sample page and then print your personal business card on the sample in order to verify correct text placement for the real business card paper.

    Note 2: See pages 88 - 96 for a great examples.

Staple all three documents together, write Repetition on the top document, and hand into the instructor.

Read Chapter 5 of the NDDB and complete the following assignments:

  1. Create a one page newsletter using the sample on page 65. Possible topics include family news, class news, a class assignment, or hobbies. Make sure to include enough text to fill the page. Save as ContrastNewsletter.doc.

  2. Create a resume using your real information. Use the examples on page 67 as an example. Reference the Job Hunting Handbook, page 14 for resume writing help. You may also use the Job Hunting Handbook for content ideas. Save as ContrastResume.doc.

  3. Recreate the pardner mini poster from Chapter 2 using the example on page 73. Don't forget to read the flyer tips below the image on page 73. Save as ContrastParder.doc

Staple all three documents together, write Contrast on the top document, and hand into the instructor.

  1. Create a one page title page using the sample on page 83. Save as ReviewTitlePage.doc.

  2. Type the answers to the Little Quiz #1 on page 84. Save as LittleQuiz1.doc.

  3. Complete the Little Quiz #2 on page 85 in MS Word. Write you name on the document and hand in. Save as LittleQuiz2.doc.

  4. Write a design analysis of the Quiz 2 final product explaining what changes you made and how your new documents uses each of the four design principles. Don't forget to use the design principles in your analysis. Save as LittleQuiz2Analysis.doc

Staple all four documents together and hand into the instructor.

Read Chapter 7 of the NDDB and create an identity package using the same design elements for each item. You can use the same text or data from previous assignments, but the designs must be new and repeated throughout.

  1. Create a business card using the samples on page 91. Save as TipsCard.doc.

  2. Create a letterhead using the samples on page 95. Save as TipsLetterhead.doc.

  3. Create an envelope using the samples on page 95. Save as TipsEnvelope.doc.

  4. Create a flyer using the samples on page 99. Save as TipsFlyer.doc.

  5. Create a newsletter using the samples on page 109. Save as TipsNewsletter.doc.

  6. Create a brochure using the samples on page 105. Save as TipsBrochure.doc.

  7. Create a postcard using the samples on page 99. Save as TipsPostcard.doc.

  8. Create a newspaper ad using the samples on page 115. Save as TipsNewspaperAd.doc.
